Making Quarantine Sangria
It’s weird times we’re living through right now with Covid-19 quickly spreading around the world. Most states have closed restaurants and bars, as well as mandating social distancing and in some cases, to shelter in place. This is for everyone’s well being so we flatten the curve, let the doctors do their thing, and get back to life as we knew it in a month or so.
In prep for this, I ordered a box of 15 bottles of wine from a discount online store. We’ve been sipping on them over the last few weeks and found one bottle (of which I had 2 bottles) that was just… mediocre. So what do you do with mediocre red wine? In my household we don’t dump it down the drain (well, not usually), we grab some fruit and brandy and make sangria! With the sunshine out right now in Seattle, this sangria was a nice way to feel like soon things will be back to normal and we’ll be sipping sangria on the week.
Here’s how I make my sangria, let me know if you have variations that are tasty!
Ingredients:
2 bottles of wine (I used an Argentinian red blend)
2 lemons
2 oranges
2 limes
1/2 cup of cane sugar
1 cup of brandy
Optional: raspberry seltzer water
Recipe:
Chop all fruit into bite sized cubes
Add all fruit to large pitcher
Pour in both bottles of wine
Pour brandy into pitcher.
Mix in 1/2 cup of sugar.
Stir till sugar is dissolved.
Chill for 8+ Hours (overnight works best!)
Serve in large wine glass over ice, and don’t forget you can nibble on the wine soaked fruit!
Happy sipping!
