Getting Some Much Needed Grape Therapy in Brisbane

Getting Some Much Needed Grape Therapy in Brisbane

One of my favorite date nights to do with my boyfriend is try out new wine bars in whatever city we may be in. So when I was struggling for a Christmas present to buy him, I started looking for places in Brisbane that I could buy him a gift certificate to for when I eventually was able to make the move to Australia.

That’s when I found Grape Therapy—a swanky wine merchant and drinking den. Located in the CBD of Brisbane, close to the river on Adelaide Street, you walk down stairs and you are transported to what feels like a prior era. Their furniture is arranged with vintage chesterfield sofas, wine barrels, and larger table seating to accommodate any kind of group. When we were there on a Saturday night, there was even live jazz band that came in to play and add to the ambiance.

In their digital gift card offerings there are a few levels of wine tastings and whiskey tastings for purchase. While I typically aim for wines ‘on a budget’ I decided to purchase the Premium Tasting for Two for his Christmas present which runs $120 AUD. This includes a tasting of 4 top-shelf wines, and they did NOT disappoint. We started out with a champagne, moved to an Australian chardonnay, back to France for a chilled red, and ending with a Bordeaux.

Here are the exact wines:

  1. Laurenti ‘Grande Cuvee’ NV | Les Ryceis, France

  2. Lakes Folly Chardonnay 2017 | Hunter Valley, NSW

  3. Boutinot, ‘Uva Non Grata’ Gamay 2018 | Lyon, France

  4. Les Terres Blanches Des Domaines Edmond de Rothschild, Montagne Saint-Émilion 2012 | Bordeaux, France

They also offer a selection of handmade charcuterie boards to match your wine choices, or you can order delicious pizzas from the Italian restaurant upstairs! We ordered the olives, bread, and mushroom and truffle pizza. It was the perfect amount for two of us.

We will definitely be going back to Grape Therapy again and bringing friends! If you check them out, let me know what you tried.

Happy sipping!
